The vessel has round-section stainless steel (s/s) Pushpit and Pulpit structures, with single line s/s safety wire from fore to aft, supported by matching s/s stanchions to both Port and Starboard. There are hand-rails fitted to the aft section of the super-structure. A perforated toe-rail is found at the join of the super-structure and the hull mouldings, ensuring easy removal of water when breaking over the fore and side deck areas. The Cockpit has a self-draining facility. A 'Trident' plough-type galvanised anchor with chain (? length) and line with fore-deck fitting to secure the anchor. A substantial manual winch and cleats are fitted P & S on the side decks for the Mainsail/Headsail control lines. The Boom is controlled by fittings on a purpose-made raised element in the Cockpit (see picture) which enables the helmsman control of the lines - as well as manage the tiller.

The craft is fitted with a bronzed aluminium mast & boom. Stainless steel standing rigging with bottle-screw fittings for tension. The Foresail is raised/lowered at the mast with fitted winch and cleats. The Fore-stay has the Foresail furling gear fitted with the sheets brought back to the Cockpit. The Main-sail is raised/lowered, by a mainsail halyard, with 'sliders' in the mast. Similarly, the mainsail foot is with sliders in the top of the boom. A mainsail cover is included. The sheets of the Foresail are brought to manual winches at the Cockpit, fastened by standard cleats or brought aft to a 'Centre-of-the-Cockpit' plinth enabling the helmsman to both steer as well as control the sheets, etc. (see photo of this feature) Ideal for 'short-handed' crew.

Additional Information:

The Great Dane 28 yacht - designed by Aage Utzon, Denmark - was first brought to the UK market in 1965. Within a few years, the 'following' had grown sufficient to form a 'Great Dane 28 Owners Club' who continue to provide more information on the history of these craft. Chosen by many enthusiasts with families, as the accommodation is generous and performance good. This craft has been used by such a family who are now looking to 'move on'. Located afloat, near the Broker.

Accommodation:
From the COCKPIT: Across the transom are two forward facing, generously sized lockers - which also make good seats. One locker accommodates the gas canister in the gas locker - vented overboard. The other used for mooring lines, etc. The tiller is arranged to operate over the seating and lockers. The rudder is transom hung. In the centre of the Cockpit is a purpose-made pedestal which offers useful cleats, etc. for the main sheets which come inboard from the side deck winches (P & S) and secured. The Helmsman is able to manage necessary sail management under-way, as well as helm with the tiller. Sections of the Cockpit sole provide access to the aft end of the engine, gear-box and shaft. Entry to the accommodation is by removal of timber sections, which when fitted, meet with the sliding hatch when pulled aft and form a safe, lockable entry. Steps are located immediately inside, providing access to the accommodation. To Port is the Galley with work-top, sink with hand-pumped cold water feed. Crockery, cutlery, 'pots & pans' etc. are to hand within a rotating unit, with shelving providing a tidy 'home' for these when under-way or moored alongside. Opposite - to Starboard - is an additional work-top under which is a 2-ring hob with grill. This item is fixed to the locker structure. Gas is from the bottle in the stern locker with appropriate pipework and fittings. Ahead in the Main Cabin are facing double settees with a generous table set between. The table has a work-top with hinged sections, providing a good sized table top reaching both sides of the cabin seating. Under the seating are useful stowage spaces. Ahead, a bulkhead is fitted with door to the Forward spaces, s well as providing support to the mast. The Fore-cabin offers an enclosed Heads compartment - with sea-water flushed toilet together with hand-basin. Opposite, to Starboard, is a hanging locker. The forward bulkhead has a door to the Forecabin. With slightly lower head room, the cabin has two single berths (P & S) - with a purpose-made upholstered triangular timber infill - with matching tri-angular cushion providing a useful double berth. An opening glazed hatch is fitted in the deck-head providing light, ventilation and emergency escape. Access to the chain locker is in the forepeak bulkhead. The accommodation throughout is carpeted, with curtains to the windows. The deck-head is unusually good with an approx. 5ft 10ins ( 1.7m) head-room. Clean, good quality materials for coverings and curtains, complement the fit-out.
