VCU formula

Although licences are now worked out on Kw And tonnage the former system of  Vessel capacity units  is still a useful comparison

The following formula is used to work out the amount of vessel capacity units required by a vessel:

(Length over all X Breadth) + ( Engine Power X 0.45 )

Lenght and Breadth are in Meters
Engine Power is in Kilowatts ( Kw)
note:To convert horsepower to kilowatts divide the horsepower by 1.341.

example: boat length = 6 meters, breadth = 2.5meters, Engine power = 20Kilowatts

therefore
( 6m X 2.5m ) + ( 20 X 0.45 ) =
( 15 ) + ( 9 ) = 24 VCU's
