Additional Information:

Swiss Star is a Cochin 33 with an interesting story, a history of hard work and continues to perform to this day. Her story is best detailed in the voice of the owner who can talk you through her life an numerous upgrades which bring her up to her current condition:

“Swiss Star was fitted with 2 Volvo Diesel Engine, high rpm, which were trouble from the start. After several attempts by Volvo Agents in the South Coast and in Wales to rectify the problem, it was finally agreed that Volvo should take the engines back and Lochin should replace them with Cummins, 6 cylinder, 250 HP, engines, whereby I paid for the price difference.

At that time I was an Auxilliary Coast Guard a-float and worked for Holyhead, Milford Haven and Brixham Coast Guard Station, resulting often in “Battle Speed” actions which ended the life of both engines, one on 10.9.2004 and the second one on 22.4.2005; both were replaced with brand new Cummins Engines, which are still in service today.

Over the whole Swiss Star Life the boat was maintained by professional yards, no expenses spared; and the following items were replaced:

Complete Exhaust System

3 sets of propellors

Replaced some windows

Renewed Radar GPS and 2 VHF Radios

Trim Taps

Fire Extinguishers

Turbo Chargers and Oil Coolers

Injectors

3 New Batteries in 2021

New Life Raft in 2014

Additional 2 Fuel Tanks were installed giving a fuel capacity of 1100 litres

New alternators in 2018

Original working hours 1915 and on newly fitted clock 411, giving an up-to-date working life of 2326 hours, after the Coast Guard Activity with the Re-Organisation of the Coast Guard, the “Battle Speed “ trips ended and todays cruises are gentle at 1200 – 1400 rpm giving good fuel consumption of 12 – 15 litres per hour.

I summarise herewith the main cruises which I carried out:

2 x Rye to Barmouth in Cardigan Bay, one when the boat was new and the second time with the new Cummings engines.

12 x Wales to Ireland East and South Coast.

2 x Barmouth to Milford Haven for Annual Service
