Summary
“DRACULA” is a motor launch of proven type, owned and operated by Brightlingsea Harbour Commissioners and currently coded under Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) regulations MGN 280 for 3 Category operation (up to 20 miles from a safe haven) as a workboat and part-time pilot boat with up to six persons on board.

In 2006 the coding was changed the applicable Code MGN 280.

Brightlingsea harbour have operated “Dracula” since 2001 in the role as workboat and pilot boat, during this time; Dracula has completed thousands of pilot transfers successfully and aided in the berthing of ships at the Port of Brightlingsea. “Dracula” has also acted as a patrol, survey and support vessel during its time with Brightlingsea Harbour. With its unique and dominant presence on the water it has helped maintain safe navigation along side the Marine Police Unit during summer operations.

The vessel has been coded by YDSA since 1994. YDSA have issued a new 5 year certification for “Dracula” commencing on 27th January 2022. No expense was spared in the upkeep of this vessel due to its requirement to be available 24/7 as Brightlingsea Harbours only pilot boat.
