Barrus 100 years

by Barrus 5th July 2017
This year is a proud and momentous year for Barrus

This year is a proud and momentous year for Barrus as the company celebrates its 100-year anniversary.

The business today is diverse and challenging. Barrus markets and distributes its products across a wide range of sectors including marine, garden, and industrial. Mariner and Mercury outboard engines, Quicksilver leisure and fishing boats, John Deere and Yanmar marine and industrial diesel engines, Cub Cadet garden machinery, and WOLF-Garten and Wilkinson Sword garden tools are just a few of the market leading brands in the Barrus portfolio.

Looking back at Barrus’s long history demonstrates how the company has adapted constantly to changing markets. Starting out as a European distributor for hand and power tools, Barrus became an essential lifeline for Britain during the Second World War with the supply of hand tools, military tools and marine engines to the UK War Department and the MoD.

Throughout its 100-year history, Barrus has constantly sought to introduce new, innovative products with potential to the British market. Today, the company has long-standing partnerships with major international suppliers representing over 30 leading brands which are distributed through over 3000 authorised Barrus dealers nationwide.

However, the scope of the Barrus business extends beyond the supply of products through its authorised dealer networks. A large proportion of business is with original equipment manufacturers, the MoD, RNLI and other military and emergency services organisations supplying specialist marine and industrial engines.

Barrus Expertise

The company’s expertise in specialist applications engineering support and custom-engine building has enabled Barrus to offer a flexible approach to the specific requirements of these customers. There has been significant investment in research and development with the creation of one of the world’s largest and most modern custom-engine building facilities.

The company has changed shape and taken opportunities over the years but it still remains committed to customer service; adding value to the product it sells while investing in support and backup for its dealers.

Barrus – Celebrating our first 100 years, gearing up for the next.
