A very reluctant sale due to age/ health of Skipper (Jim) and work responsibilities of Mate (son, James).
Pioneer has been part of our family since 1991. We are looking for someone with equal enthusiasm to take her on. She is one of a kind, a piece of Cornish history and is in overall fair condition
for her age. She is a fine and safe sea boat of great character.

Three owners in her lifetime. Built 1899, St.Ives for the Hendy family working out of Newlyn and St.Ives mainly herring/ pilchard driving, passenger excursions, some crabbing, then trawling in later years. In steam until 1947, Then Kelvin, then Lister Blackstone in 1952. Sold in 1966 to diver/ salvor. Acquired in 1991 by Jim Richards who carried out complete renovation. In private pleasure use ever since.

Construction:-
Hull
Carvel, mixture of larch, pitch pine and oak planking, 1 1/4″ thick.
Sheer strake in 2” oak/ larch, with rubbing strake, larch/ pine bulwarks with mainly oak capping.
Sawn oak frames.
Approx 2.5 tons internal iron/ lead ballast.
She was built to sit on the sand in St.Ives harbour and like the luggers of the time has low bilges and will dry out at a comfortable angle. She has the typical vertical stem and a lovely counter stern.
Complete renovation 1991 to 1999.

Decks
Traditional plank. 2”, mixture of douglas fir, spruce and pitch pine. Foredeck and port quarter recently repaired.

Deck housings
2” pine coamings with 2” plank decks on top.

Traditional design, seating aft, wheel/ chain steering with original gypsy, console and locker space.
