Shepherdess – Larch on Oak.

Built by Tony Goodall at Sandsend 1973.

This boat had substantial restoration work carried out in the late 1990s when the entire hull was stripped out and the following work completed:
• 3 new planks in the bottom of the boat abaft the starboard beam.
• New top plank on the starboard side running 2/3rds of the length from the aft.
• New bottom knee from the turn of the keel aft into the Apron.
• 3 New sawn frames in the bottom and every rib replaced.
• New thwarts and knees.
• 2 new drafts.
• New top rails and capping.
• Other small plank repairs including 2 doublings.
• All new copper nails and roves and through fastenings for all parts replaced.

Effectively every other nail was replaced in the boat when the new ribs were steamed / bent in. All parts were replaced like for like in terms of materials used i.e. larch, oak and elm.

The boat has had further work since then including fitting sawn frame towing posts aft, which extend down to the turn of the bilge.

Keel sections fore and aft have also been replaced.

During this winter the boat has had a full repaint inside and out and is currently painted in Teamac Cypress Green and Ivory outside and a pale blue / grey inside. Other small repairs have been completed and the boat has been garage kept since then.

This boat is in lovely condition and a very good example of a Goodall beach boat.

Shepherdess comes with a pair of Sweeps (oars) and a Honda 8HP (6kW) 4-Stroke Engine, which is mounted on a bracket off the stern (currently taken off due to length restrictions in the garage, but ready to bolt back on).

The following should be noted:

1. This boat has worked from a beach its entire life and apart from occasionally laying afloat has not done so for any length of time. It has also had the last 6 months in a garage. Therefore, anyone buying with a view to lie her afloat will need to consider installing a bilge pump while she tightens up. This should go without saying of course.

2. This boat takes an exceptional amount of work to look as good as it does.

3. The engine was bought new early in 2000 and has been serviced regularly ever since. It has had to have a new head gasket in recent years and I have had to repair a water leak in the side of the crank case where the raw water passes through.

4. There is no trailer with the boat, I can assist the buyer getting the boat onto their own transport.

DO NOT SEND MONEY TO SELLERS YOU CANNOT VERIFY AS GENUINE.

If possible, travel to view the boat or equipment yourself and only buy once you are happy with it.
