A Classic boat for sale £1950

17ft Northumberland Sailing Coble in heavy grp, faithfully reproduced from authentic moulds. Fully scaled 1" to 1ft drawings are available in this sale. Much documentation relating to this classic boat's history both for fishing and racing, is available via the Owners Club and on the www.

The sailing configuration is the Coble's 'classic' dipping lug. The quality tan sail has two sets of reefs and is in good condition, simply set on wooden mast and yard. The single halyard also acts as a mast support shroud. Release of the single halyard will drop the complete sail assembly immediately when pressed . The deep rudder and very deep forefoot control leeway and the pronounced tumblehome keeps the water out when under sail. Stability factors inherent in this classic hull shape led to the first lifeboat design .

For confined sailing areas, the so called 'unhandy' dipping lug configuration can, simply by altering the mast rake, and repositioning tack and mainsheet, be converted to a loose footed standing lug, reverting to the more powerful rig again in open water. A wooden boom (included) can be added to the balanced lug sail configuration. The sale includes stainless steel forestay and shrouds that will better support the mast should the alternative sailing configuration be favoured.

A 4/5 hp British Seagull outboard engine, fitted in a stern enclosure, can be raised clear of the water for sailing. The outboard engine has electronic ignition, forward, neutral and reverse gears and can be operated with the deep rudder in place, or removed. The rudder has an installed depth of 3ft and is arranged to lift safely and float, when the depth shallows or be removed inboard if the boat is to be purposely beached .

Other items in the sale will include a fitted sewn PVC coated canvas mast down cover, built in buoyancy tanks, oars and rowlocks, anchor, bow roller and chain, boat hook, Henderson bilge pump, boat rollers, warps, running rigging, miscellaneous fenders, blocks and cleats.

The boat is currently stored ashore with access from both road and water with a nearby free launch and retrieve slipway. This sale includes for a purpose built road trailer used only for launch/retrieve, The coble's flat bottom and shallow bilge keels would allow for easy stable road, flatbed or trailer, transport which caters for a weight around 800lb
