Additional Information:

It is with a heavy heart that I must sell my retirement project due to ill health. It was my promise to the last owner, that I would restore his uncles unfinished yacht project, on completion, to invite him and his wife on the maiden voyage at Littlehampton Sussex. In December 2019 I developed Kidney Cancer and had a kidney removed the operation has left me in a weakened state, such that I am unable to finish the project. Considering my current state of health, I do not think that I would be safe sailing as I am seventy years old and feeling my age.

Approximately 5 years ago I saw this unfinished project, abandoned in a garden near Dorking, it had been sitting for some thirty years. It was derelict and was covered with undergrowth and mould, however I could see the potential and was smitten.

The craft had stood on his land since his uncle moved it there some 34 years ago. I found it in a very poor state, damp and mould was evident within, an ancient petrol engine was in-board but not fitted, the electrical wiring and fittings were beyond economical repair. The internal woodwork had peeling varnish, all the soft furnishings were rotted. The external surfaces were covered in mould and detritus.

The Snapdragon was bought by the original owner as a kit and was never finished, he actually lived on the boat at one time in a dock where some bow damage had occurred. The gunnel rubbing rail was also damaged while in dock and still is in need of refurbishment.

I spent a lot of time sanding, cleaning and polishing with good results, the exterior came up like new, the gel coat was damaged on the bow where it was in dock at one time, which was also sanded back, repaired and is now invisible. The interior shell suffered with mould that all cleaned up with good effect and the gloss finish was restored to a good standard.

I remade some of the broken locker covers on deck and repaired and remade that cockpit hatch doors. All the internal soft furnishings were discoloured beyond cleaning, these were recovered professionally at a cost of £1500. I also purchased a second-hand YANMAR 3-cylinder diesel engine £900 which I had seen running, since which time I have serviced and painted it, and it is ready to install.

I rewired the electric lighting and have partially fitted a fish finder / plotter. Some of the motor control wiring is installed and the boat has a working stereo disc player and radio with a new leisure battery. Some new led lighting has also been fitted.

The sails, rigging, mast and boom are included but not fitted. The propeller has not been fitted but is included the prop shaft has also been fitted. All the rigging, mast and boom are present with the sails, that have never been fitted, together with a cockpit weather shield and guard rail fittings.

Any potential purchaser must be aware of the logistical problems that will need to be considered. The boat is sitting on wooden sleepers' access is via the drive leading to the house that is narrow and fairly long approximately 100 yards.

Be assured that any purchaser will need the vision, dedication and love to restore this grand lady, who thoroughly deserves to have her day on the open seas, I am sure she will bring many hours of pleasure to anybody who is brave enough to take up this restoration project.

All viewings will be carried out and arranged via myself and the property owner where the craft is situated.

The registered weight is 5.62/tons the Gross tonnage is 5.82
