Wanted:

Lumpsucker Cyclopterus lumpus., Lumpfish, sea hens, paddle cock, stone clever,

Location:
Weymouth
Description:
Native Marine Centre are specialists in the collection of wild marine species for the direct education and research of marine animals. We work with a number of clients ranging from universities, attraction
aquariums, fish farms and inshore fishermen to aid the projects.

NMC is currently expanding the efforts to find more fishermen. We are hoping you may be able to help us. Our partners are Marine Harvest and we are the UK’s number one lumpfish producer and a well established wild wrasse producer.

We are currently looking for brood stock lumpfish and eggs to aid us in our production and possibly more in the coming future regarding wrasse and other species. Please see attached pictures.

Fertile males are red in colour usually around 1kg

Females, if bearing eggs are plump and larger usually around 3kg. If you manage to catch lumpfish please hold 2 x male with 1 x female in a large 220l holly (blue barrel) @ 2m depth making sure the holly is just off the sea bed and ideally hung horizontally. Leave the fish to spawn.

The egg masses are pink initially and turn a conker brown in colour as they mature. The indentations are a good sign the have been fertilised by the male. Eggs hatch after approximately 4 weeks, ideally we would like a holding time of no longer than 2 weeks.

The pictures show a batch of 2 week old eggs. The eyes can be seen at this stage.
We are looking ideally for good quality fertilised eggs. We are focusing on eggs mainly, although if you are catching large numbers of fish this is also of huge interest as we are looking for annual suppliers nationwide and pay very good prices for quality fertilised eggs and fish with potential investment.

If this may be something you can help with please contact Mike 07833340993 mike@nativemarinecentre.com

Kindest regards

Mike Webb
